Emerging Technologies

Emerging Technologies are more than I.T.

There are thousands of emerging technologies that are helping us in amazing ways. A few of them are discussed in this article.

According to an article titled “Emerging technology is more than IT” written by Colleen Wallace, an emerging technology does not necessarily have a connection with IT. A large number of emerging technologies have nothing to do with IT and computers.

This article mentions both emerging technologies that are related to IT and those not related to IT.

Biotechnology is one of the most popular emerging technologies that is reshaping our lives. With the advent of biotechnology, we can produce crops with enhanced nutrients, and we can grow plants that are drought resistant. For example, genetically modified crops, also known as biotech crops, are produced using the techniques of genetic engineering.

Solar energy

Solar energy is another popular emerging technology that can replace traditional energy sources. This technology utilizes the heat and light of the sun to produce energy. Solar energy can greatly benefit businesses, factories, and the common people. Applications of solar energy include electricity production, solar cooker, water heating, ventilation, water treatment, solar vehicle, etc.

Drones in agriculture

The traditional farming process is very time-consuming. Therefore, drones have been developed that can substitute farmers and farming machines. These agricultural drones can save us time, money and energy. For example, the senseFly eBee Ag is an agricultural drone from senseFly. More details about this drone can be found here: www.sensefly.com.

Delivery drones

Delivery drones can make the delivery process extremely easy for a business. Now businesses, especially shopping sites are planning to use such drones to transport their products to customers. Several small and big companies are making and testing delivery drones across the world. For example, Amazon is developing a delivery drone known as Prime Air.

Internet of Things

Internet of Things, commonly known as IoT, is going to make our lives a lot easier. IoT is often defined as a network of objects such as doors, pen, chair, etc. With the power of IoT, you can control and use real-life, physical objects remotely from your mobile or computer. For example, you can close the doors of your house from your office PC, and you can cook using your mobile phone. Future applications of IoT include home automation, environmental monitoring, infrastructure controlling, health monitoring, etc.

Artificial Intelligence

The field of artificial intelligence is very exciting. There are two types of AI — weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI has already been invented, and strong AI is under development. Weak AI has been implemented in mobile phones, software applications and web apps that are helping businesses grow. Development of advanced intelligent robots and other applications of AI will redefine our lives in the near future. For example, intelligent toys, personal helpers as shown in Science Fiction movies, and intelligent apps will dramatically improve our lives.

3D printing

3D printing is an awesome invention of this age. With the help of a 3D printer, you can make three-dimensional physical objects. You can design the object using software on your computer, and then you can get a real, physical object. The physical object can be made of plastics, metals, etc. 3D printing can be of great use. For example, 3D printing can be used to print/make artificial food, models for buildings and cars, medicines using chemical inks, clothes, devices and machines, and so on.

Although the technologies mentioned above have already been invented, they are still very new and very little work has been done on them. So at the present, we do not have the full benefits of these technologies, but we will hopefully see the real magic of emerging technologies in the very near future.
